3 Tips for Maintaining and Grooming Your Beard

There's just something about having a beard that bumps up a guy's manliness. That's why lots of guys scramble just to get their bear looking a certain way. But while you might think simply growing your beard out is all maintenance you need, you'll be surprised just how much actually goes into effective beard care. If you're struggling to care for your beard, if you think you'd be better off shaving everything instead, if you just can't get it looking the way you want it to, this short list of beard care tips should give you a better idea what you should do.

1.            Prune Your Beard - You know how shrubs and bushes in gardens are regularly pruned to help leaves and branches grow a certain way? The same needs to be done for your bear. Pruning your beard means cutting off strategic parts to guide it into an ideal growth pattern. Every month, you should see to it that you prune your beard so that it doesn't just grow in whatever pattern it wants to. And remember - pruning applies to everyone who wants to grow and maintain a beard - even those who feel like growing it out as long as possible.

2.            Comb Your Beard - Tangles in your beard hair is very likely, especially if you're growing it long. These tangles, just like if you had them in your head hair, can cause serious damage and might even become the reason for a thinning beard. It's important to make sure your beard is free of tangles at all times, and this involves combing through it regularly. Once you start to groomed beard and maintain some length to your beard, be sure to carefully comb through it with a wide toothed comb to get rid of any tangles. Avoid pulling through it too aggressively to prevent tearing the hairs and damaging the follicles.

3.            Care for Your Beard - Just like the hair on your head, your beard also needs special care. Using products like beard oil will help keep your beard and the delicate skin it grows on in peak condition. Avoid using body soap on your beard as this will dry it out and cause it to grow in with poor strength and rough texture. Wash your beard as regularly as you wash the rest of your body, and pat it dry with a clean towel. Comb it afterwards to maximize the distribution of the beard oil.
